If it were not for an 8-year-old girl named Alice, the world may never have seen Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Nigel Newton is the founder of Bloomsbury, a publishing house that was, at the time, very small and had barely gotten started. He reluctantly accepted Rowling’s manuscript but did not read it himself, instead handing it over to his daughter. Her enthusiasm for the book made Bloomsbury take a chance on the book.
